On Sunday December 27th, 2009 the Woodley Cricket Grounds were alive with the sounds of cricket, and the athleticism and enthusiasm of youth. The Auckland Volcanoes, an under-19 team from New Zealand played the SCCA Youth team from Los Angeles under typical sunny Southern California winter skies. The Auckland Volcanoes scored 200 in 42 overs and S.C.C.A Youth’s replied with 190 in 42 overs. This was undoubtedly a very keenly contested game and a most important international experience for our local youths who, under the patronage of S.C.C.A. and Asif Ahmad are growing in numbers.

The event was largely sponsored by the Hollywood Golden Oldies Cricket Club, a traveling cricket group of 120 seniors based in Los Angeles. The HGOCC is dedicated to promoting cricket throughout California and the U.S.A. at all age levels.   The H.G.O.C.C. and "Vintage Cricket" are currently planning a mega 10 day event for seniors in 2011, split between the ambiance of Los Angeles and San Francisco. This promises to be a very special event.

As the Auckland Volcanoes continue their world tour of Florida and Barbados, we all wish them the best and hopefully to see them and many more visiting teams in Los Angeles soon.
